A group of Versalie Ambassadors feeling hopeful about the future of menopause

Looking to the Future of Menopause

By Christina Hanna, MPH, CHES • Published 12/30/2024

As we wrap up another year, we're not only thinking about 2025 — we're looking to the future of menopause. Versalie Ambassadors, who are going through perimenopause or postmenopause right now, want women’s health, especially menopause, to be better for their daughters (and anyone else going through it).

When they imagine someone going through menopause in the next few decades, they see a world that's come a long way. They see a future where people feel comfortable talking openly about menopause. They hope for medical progress that helps us live healthier and more comfortably at any age. The Ambassadors want to make sure that people in the future get the support, education, and respect they need during their menopause transition.

What does the future of menopause look like?

We asked our Versalie Ambassadors to share their thoughts on what going through menopause might be like for someone 30 years from now. Their responses paint a picture of a future that’s filled with better healthcare, increased social awareness, and a world that better understands and values the female body. Here's what they had to say:

In the future, they’re going to have so many tools, so much information out there that they can gather. They'll have more of a community than we had — all the groundwork is being laid now. I feel like men are going to be even more aware of their girlfriends, their sisters, and their wives. They're more aware of periods now than they probably were 30 years ago. Alicia, 51

Hopefully, more research and more medications are out there to help it not be so hard. And more support, definitely more support. Christina, 53

There's going to be so many medicines and products available to them. Sandra, 50

Thirty years from now, what I imagine for her might be the same menopausal symptoms. But hopefully a whole lot more technology, so she'll have better resources. I hope there’s been research and there are medications and therapies that have been developed to help women, so it’s not so much of a mystery. Give us concrete research. Find out what's going on for those ladies in the future. Tevia, 45

I see women 30 years from now knowing they're going to go through menopause because they've received so much information. It's talked about and everyone knows what menopause is. And it’ll be a normal thing that we discuss. Women will know the resources and solutions before they even have the symptoms. They’ll know more about menopause and nutrition, supplements, menopausal hormone therapy. Physically, the symptoms probably won't ever totally disappear. But it will be so much easier to manage and find resources because they can go to their favorite drugstore and there's a menopause section. OB-GYN offices will have signs in their office that mention menopause. Wanda, 55

They'll be more relaxed and have so much information. Maybe women’s clinics will have a focus on menopause. Or maybe there’ll be menopause wellness centers we can go to. I hope there's more doctors and scientists who step up to the plate and study menopause. I hope doctors will be more aware and knowledgeable to help us. Xenia, 50

Let’s discuss “taboo” topics

We asked our Versalie Ambassadors to also share their vision for a world where conversations about women’s health (and other "taboo" topics) are no longer hushed. Their responses show a collective desire for change. They want a future that’s more educated, empathetic, and empowering. Here are their thoughts:

I think the next couple of generations of young women will be much more open and willing to talk about these things and be more honest about what's happening in their bodies. In the future, there's just going to be much more openness about it, much more discussion about it up front. Tula, 47

I think it’ll get better. I've seen an improvement in so many other topics that are taboo in the last 5 years, that it's only going to get better from here. I think like everything else, it’s breaking down walls, breaking down barriers. I'm hopeful and I think there's a lot of positive change coming with what is acceptable to talk about. In the future, women will be so much more prepared to combat the negative aspects of menopause and perimenopause than they are now. I'm excited for them! Stacy, 48

I feel like we're already on the cusp of it, but I think everything's going to be out in the open. The more people talk about them and the more open they are, the more open everything is. Jessie, 50

There will be a lot more openness, acceptance, and help for women. In society, we’re often ignored and underrepresented. I hope society will start caring about our health more seriously. Let’s change the whole dynamic when it comes to women and how they approach our well-being. Cristina, 45

My vision is that it's out there for the public to discuss and to learn, and that it's not taboo. It's okay to be open and honest about what you're going through because every woman is pretty much going through the same thing. So, you don't have to hide it. You can be open and honest about how you experience menopause. And if anything, it can help other people. I'm hoping that it's a common thing to talk about. Dawn, 53

Greater listening and understanding and choice and awareness. And I think believing women when they say something’s off, because we know our own bodies. Just because it doesn't match this list or doesn't match what this expert said, doesn’t mean it’s not real. Drea, 47

My hope is that we have this huge, beautiful chorus of people talking about it and that it’s normal. I think medical studies will be more inclusive and we’ll have more information. When we have more information, we can make better decisions and provide better care. That's the dream. JenMarie, 46

Our Versalie Ambassadors' wisdom suggests a better future for women's health and how we deal with issues that have often been ignored. Their dreams for open dialogue, improved healthcare, and a more understanding world are inspiring. Let's work together to transform these hopes into reality. Imagine a future where every individual feels acknowledged, listened to, and supported along their path.
